Alcoa is actively preparing to increase the electric energy of the smelter, thereby increasing the annual production capacity from 350000 tons to 370000 tons. The project involves the renovation of the electrolytic cell workshop, which is expected to cost about SEK million (96 - but under the overall situation of macroeconomic structural adjustment and transformation promotion, US $101 million). Another proposal is to increase the annual output of the smelter by another 180000 tons, so as to reach 50000 tons to 50000 tons, on the premise that the financing assistance and power agreement have been reached. If everything goes smoothly and all conditions are met, the project may be started next year, and the expanded smelter may achieve full production before 2018. The expansion is estimated to cost about 90billion kroner (706million US dollars), and another 270mw of electricity is required
